Researcher’s statement
We are asking you to be a part of the Psychology Research Pool for this quarter. The purpose of this Information Statement is to give you the information you will need to help you decide whether to be a part of this research pool. This process is called “informed consent.”

PURPOSE
The purpose of the Psychology Research Pool is to track extra credit to students who participate in research studies through the pool.

PROCEDURES
If you agree to participate in the Psychology Research Pool, you will then proceed to set up your account which allows you to choose whether you would like to participate in various types of research studies being conducted by the Psychology Department.

You will be asked to provide demographic information prior to enrollment. This information will be used to determine your eligibility for studies. Demographic questions include information such as your age, your birthplace, and your language background. Some of these questions are more sensitive or personal. For these questions, you will have the option of not providing responses if you have concerns about privacy.

RISKS, STRESS, OR DISCOMFORT
There is always the risk that a loss of confidentiality might occur. However, please see Other Information for procedures set in place to prevent this from occurring.
ALTERNATIVES TO PARTICIPATION
There are other ways a student can earn extra credit. Alternative educational experiences, determined by the course instructor, are available if you do not wish to participate in the Psychology Research Pool.
BENEFITS
While there may be no direct benefits to you, you may learn more about the process of psychology research by participating in research studies.
OTHER INFORMATION
By enrolling in the pool you will not receive credit. Instead, you must sign up and participate in research studies through the research pool website in order to receive extra course credit. However, if you decide not to enroll in the pool, you will not be penalized or lose any benefits to which you are otherwise entitled.
Your enrollment in the Psychology Research Pool is confidential. This means no one besides the Research Pool Manager and the investigators offering research participation will know your identity, and we will not release your identity. All your information will be stored on a secure server with restricted access.

Participating in the Psychology Research Pool is voluntary. If you have questions at any time you can contact the Research Pool Manager, whose contact information is listed above.
