Vision Monday recently reported that Ione Fine will be the Keynote Speaker for the 13th annual Envision Conference
Envision has announced that Ione Fine, PhD , a professor of psychology at the University of Washington in Seattle and an expert in brain plasticity and sight recovery technology, will deliver the keynote address at the 13th annual Envision Conference. The four-day meeting runs August 22 to 25 at the Hyatt Regency Wichita. Fine will speak at the conference’s plenary welcome session on Thursday, Aug. 23. Envision Conference is the premier multidisciplinary gathering dedicated to advancing and disseminating knowledge about the causes, impact and rehabilitative opportunities tied to low vision, according to an announcement this week.
Dr. Fine’s keynote presentation, “Blindness, Brain Plasticity and Future Sight Recovery Technology,” will address how individuals who are blind come to understand the language and concepts of the sighted world and, ultimately, learn to navigate through it fluently.
“We are excited to have Dr. Fine lead off our 2018 program as the keynote speaker,” Michael Epp, manager of professional education at Envision, said in the announcement. “Her research into brain plasticity and sight recovery technology has direct implications to the validity of vision rehabilitation interventions and clinical practice techniques for people who are blind or low vision.”
Envision, founded in 1933, promotes advocacy and independence for those who are blind or low vision, and is one of the largest employers of individuals with vision loss in the nation. Its conference draws optometrists, ophthalmologists, teachers of the visually impaired, occupational, rehabilitation and licensed visual therapists, researchers and suppliers of vision-related products and services.
Dr. Fine, a selected speaker at the National Eye Institute ’s 50th Anniversary Symposium focusing on low vision, is a noted advocate for women in science and is currently a fellow of the Optical Society of America.
